In here you will find information on the Multiple Sclerosis disease. Multiple Sclerosis is a disease also known as disseminated sclerosis or encephalomyelitis disseminata, and is a disease of the nervous system. It is an affection of the nerve cells that happens when the immune system attacks and damages the myelin that insulates the neuron's axons.

Basically, the loss of myelin in the axons will cause the loss of electrical transmission between the brain cells and the spinal cord. Usually, scars will form inside the brain's white matter. It is a very hazardous condition for the human body. Its cause is presumed to be an infection that attacks the nervous system and also it is speculated that genetics are involved.

The loss of transmission on the nerve cells can produce many neurological symptoms, such as loss of coordination, muscle weakness, general physical degeneration, and also cognitive disability, like loss of memory, problems in speech, changes of mood, between others. There is no known cure for Multiple Sclerosis, and there are actually many treatments for its symptoms, but each patient has always different reactions to the treatments.

It is particularly difficult to diagnose Multiple Sclerosis in patients since there are many possible causes, but usually a biopsy of cerebrospinal fluid can be enough. Other techniques involved in detecting MS are brain imaging. It is recommended to take tests if an attack occurs, or if the patient notices a general change in the condition of his body.

The usual treatment for MS involves the use of drugs, but it is known that up to the date, drugs for the treatment of MS have undesirable adverse effects. There are other alternatives, though, such as the change of dietary regimes, especially towards regimes that contains the fatty acids that the body needs to produce myelin. Other treatments include herbal medicines, such as cannabis.
